David Mihm has spent his career helping location-oriented companies make the most of their digital presence.
He’s a co-founder of Near Media and is an active contributor to the Near Memo podcast.
David founded and ran Tidings, an email newsletter product which he sold to DemandScience in 2021.
Previously, David served as VP Product Strategy for ThriveHive from 2018-2020. He also co-founded and ran GetListed.org, an application to help small businesses create and optimize their presence in local directories, acquired by Moz in 2012. David was instrumental in the development of Moz Local and served as Moz’s Director of Local Search Strategy.
David has been invited to present on Local search marketing at every major industry conference, including LSA/Localogy, SIINDA, StreetFight, Borrell Associates, ADP, MozCon, SearchLove, multiple SMX conferences and even as far back as SES and BIA/Kelsey Group (!) events.
David has worked with Prosper Portland’s Mercatus program, helping entrepreneurs of color with their digital marketing and has served on the Board of MercyCorps Northwest, an organization dedicated to funding aspiring entrepreneurs and helping them learn how to run a business.
He previously served on the Board of Directors of SEMpdx, Portland’s search marketing trade organization, as Director of Partnerships from 2008 – 2010 and SearchFest Director in 2011, and currently serves on its Advisory Board.
Personal Background
David is originally from Decatur, Illinois. He attended Williams College in Massachusetts, graduating magna cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology in 2003. While at Williams, he developed a love for architecture and architectural history, and tried a year of architectural graduate school at Ohio State before heading for the West Coast.
After brief stints at a boutique advertising agency, as an in-house designer, and in-house search marketer, David decided to start his own small business in early 2006 and has been loving life ever since. He’s been an Oregon resident since early 2008.
David is an enthusiastic golfer and when he has time to play, maintains a scratch handicap. He is particularly fond of the great links courses, including Royal County Down, Royal Portrush, Rosapenna, Narin & Portnoo, Cruit Island, County Louth, The Island, Ballybunion, Lahinch, Carne, Royal Aberdeen, Nairn, Cruden Bay, and Ballyneal in Colorado.
